Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (Democrat) was shot point blank in the head while holding a campaign event called “Congress on Your Corner” at a Tucson, Arizona Safeway supermarket store, 12 others were also reportedly shot and wounded with 6 dead. KGUN-TV in Tucson reported the shooting.
According to sources at the event Giffords was shot in the head and immediately rushed to University Medical Center where a hospital spokesperson told the media that Giffords was alive, but refrained from telling the seriousness of her injuries. Giffords was a supporter of comprehensive immigration reform.
Law enforcement was able to capture the shooter and have the shooter in custody.
