I am not proud of what the Pacman Manny Pacquiao has become. I recall when I first seen him fight. I remember the “I LOVE YOU PHILIPPINES!” he would say to the camera after everyone of his victory in the ring, but no longer is Manny that humble likable Filipino who was innocent and pure.
Years pass and as fame and fortune arise Manny has changed. The Manny Pacquiao today has become corrupted by politics and financial motives. He is going to the dark side of Filipino politics all because someone close to him convince him to get involved, but the reality is those who encouraged him are just using him for their own advantage in the long run.
What I and many Filipinos found endearing about Manny Pacquiao was that he wasn’t a politician or some rich snobby Filipino Mestizo celebrity, he was one of us, the humble hardworking Pinoy, and he made it to the top while remaining one of us.
It was only a matter of time until those same Filipinos who looked at him like a peasant were becoming friendly to him, these are not people Manny should surround himself with or trust. He should realize these types of Filipinos are two face and only now like him because he is the most Famous Filipino in the world and they want to use his name for their own motives.
If Manny Pacquiao suddenly lost all his fame, fortune and accolades where will those people be? Will he still have the respect of those Elitist in the Philippines? I don’t think so.
Manny is naive to actually believe he can clean up politics in the Philippines. He can do so much more as an ambassador of sports instead of a political figure. Boxing is what made Manny Pacquiao who he is today and boxing is what should be his main focus, not politics.
The Filipino people have changeable moods when it comes to their politicians, one moment they will love you and another moment they can hate you. But as a sports hero they will never hate you, you will always remain a hero in their hearts and minds.
