In boxing styles make fights, and if the rumors are true that Sugar Shane Mosley will land a fight with Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, then, you can expect fireworks.
Some people are saying this is not a good match-up because Mosley is old, he lost to Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. and had a weak showing in his last fight drawing with Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora, but those style match-ups were horribly wrong for Shane, anytime you are an offensive fighter like Mosley and you fight with guys who are counter punchers who avoid exchanges and move away, the fight will not be exciting and chances are you will look horrible in the fight.
Mosley beat up Antonio Margarito because Margarito likes to come forward and doesn’t run, he only knows how to trade punches just like Mosley, which made the fight pure action.
When Mosley went against a mover or someone who ran away from him like Mora the fight was boring, Mosley couldn’t catch him so it made him look bad, but if you put him in with a guy like Manny Pacquiao that fight is guaranteed action for the fans.
Both fighters fought Antonio Margarito and both beat him up badly. Mosley stopped Antonio while Pac-Man broke his orbital bone in a 12-round beating.
Throughout the history of boxing promoters and managers and even fighters avoided slick boxers who ran because they were annoying to fight because they didn’t like to FIGHT, they pot shot and slipped and moved away happy to win on points.
It’s not because they are scared of slick fighters it’s because it’s frustrating being a guy who wants to fight having to chase a guy who is running around clowning, example: Roberto Duran’s rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard, that was not an exciting fight and if fans had to pay for that fight today they would lose respect for Leonard and call him one of the worst runners in boxing. The only reason Duran looked bad was because he said “No Mas” (No More) and quit. Duran quit because what was the use in continuing against a guy who wasn’t coming to fight but was getting ready for a track meet? If Duran didn’t quit and continued for the entire fight losing a decision, Sugar Ray would have been called a chicken for running around by the fans.
Mainstream fans pay to watch an action fight not one guy throwing one punch at a time and running while the other one is trying to chase them, they want to watch fighters who give their all and if they hurt an opponent they go for the kill just like Mosley and Pacquiao.
Mosley might be close to 40 years of age, but he is still in good shape and still packs a big punch. Manny Pacquiao will be in for the toughest fight of his life against Mosley, who not only has the biggest punch of any of Pacquiao’s previous opponents, he also has the speed and movement that Manny hasn’t faced in a while.
This fight will be very exciting with both fighters trading blows and will not go the distance either Manny or Mosley is getting stopped by TKO or Knockout and this is what fight fans pay for “EXCITEMENT.”
