There will be a lot of pressure on Zyrene Parsad to sing the correct rendition of the Philippine National Anthem “Lupang Hinirang” during Manny Pacquiao’s big boxing match in Texas on November 13, but she is making sure not to offend the NHI [National Historical Institute] with a bad rendition by meeting with them to go over the proper way and to get tips on how to sing “Lupang Hinirang” without changing the tone and tempo of the song.
Many Filipinos believe the Philippines National Anthem was butchered the most by RP singer, Martin Nievera, who purposely changed the tempo and tone to a more upbeat melody, which angered the NHI and many proud Filipinos.
Zyrene Parsad is a young singer who placed third place on the competition show “Are You the Next Big Star?” hosted by Regine Velasquez.
According to Zyrene Parsad herself, Manny Pacquiao personally chose her to sing “Lupang Hinirang” after the boxer heard her perform during an Investor’s night in Sarangani province.
