The controversy over an inverted flag of the Philippines placed behind Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III during the ASEAN summit on Friday in New York made news headlines this morning.
There was an outcry by Filipinos and there are two sides to the issue — those who believe it was an “honest mistake” and those who believe it was “intentional.”
This is probably a negligence on whoever is in charge of arranging the flag positions for the summit, but if it is intentional in the guise of a mistake — it might impliedly reflect a sign of protest — I am wondering why President Obama is not showing much attention to the Philippines — A country that fought side by side with the United States in World War II to preserve, protect and maintain democracy.
The only Asian country that uses English as a medium of instruction and adopted some western culture. America must extend more help and assistance to the Philippines, to enhance its long time relationship.
Do you think the “Inverted Flag” of the Philippines was intentional or just simply a mistake by the person in charge of putting the flags up for the summit?
