Famous James Bond actor, Sir Sean Connery, turned 80-years-old, Wednesday August 25 and told British paper The DailyRecord that his days of acting may be done.
“I don’t think I’ll ever act again,” Connery said. “I have so many wonderful memories but those days are over. I’ve done a voiceover for an 85-minute animated film called Sir Billi, which I enjoyed and it will be exciting to see that project finished.”
Connery’s age and health concerns could be a factor in his decision to quit acting. Connery told the British paper that over the summer he wasn’t in pain but he wasn’t feeling well.
“During the summer, I wasn’t in pain but I wasn’t feeling great,” Connery said of his health concerns. “I came to the Edinburgh Film Festival in June then, when I left for the south of France, I realized I’d lost a little bit of weight and needed to change my regime. I’ve done that and the last few days have been pretty special with the family here. We’ve eaten non-stop and it has been a great celebration.”
Connery’s first marriage was to actress Diane Cilento from 1962 to 1973. Connery and Cilento had a son, actor Jason Connery. Sean Connery has been married to his second wife French painter Micheline Roquebrune since 1975, the couple never had any children.
In 1989, Sean Connery was called the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine, and in 1999, at the age of 69, he was voted Sexiest Man of the Century.
