The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns on pay per view, August 7, 2010 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California with UFC 117: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen for Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight title.
UFC President Dana White, wasn’t too happy with Anderson Silva’s recent lackluster performances and hopes the UFC 185-pound champion comes to fight against tough wrestler, Chael Sonnen.
Anderson’s recent fights, especially, his last fight in Abu Dhabi was more dancing and feeling out than actual fighting. But most of that blame could be put on Silva’s opponents not willing to engage with the Brazilian champion, fearing they would be knocked out cold if they tried.
Chael Sonnen has been begging for a fight with Anderson Silva for nearly 4 years and is finally happy to have a shot at the UFC title against the elusive striker. Sonnen did his part in hyping up UFC 117 by talking serious amounts of trash aimed at Silva. Sonnen is trying to use the art of trash talking to his favor hoping to gain the mental edge over his opponent.
Trash talking has been proven to work on many occasions in the boxing world, with such fighters as Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mike Tyson, and James Toney, all of who were able to get into their opponents heads before fights and forcing their opponents to stray from their game plans.
