According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo, Top Rank promotions boss, Bob Arum, has chosen former 147 lbs champion, Antonio Margarito, as an opponent for Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao for a November 13 date on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. apparently didn’t want to fight Manny Pacquiao and avoided making any comments concerning the situation.
Now, Manny Pacquiao is up against another tough opponent in Antonio Margarito. Mayweather has been noted to pick and choose his opponents and hasn’t really faced many top prime welterweights since moving to 147. He fought Sugar Shane Mosley who was past his prime and possibly ring rusted after a long lay off of inactivity.
Antonio Margarito is still suspended from boxing in the United States after a controversial substance was found in his hand wraps before his TKO loss to Sugar Shane Mosley in Los Angeles. Margarito was one of the prime welterweights that Floyd Mayweather Jr. avoided when he moved up in weight. Pacquiao wanted to fight Margarito before Shane Mosley beat him but his trainer Freddie Roach didn’t allow for the fight to happen.

Manny Pacquiao is always in a tough fight because he really is nothing more than a blown up featherweight who should really be fighting at 135 pounds but instead he is fighting way out of his division in more challenging fights and will move up once again to fight at 154 for the WBC vacant title against the durable, bigger, Mexican slugger, Antonio Margarito. The Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight will either be held in Las Vegas if Margarito can get a license or in Mexico.
