I know a lot of the Brock Lesnar fans will give too much credit for his submission win on Saturday night at UFC 116 but many people who are praising Brock for his win are the same who insulted Todd Duffee for getting knocked out against Mike Russow claiming he sucked. Duffee’s opponent Mike Russow showed pure class and even said his performance sucked against Duffee and he basically was shocked himself and got lucky when he caught a tired Duffee with a hard punch in round 3 of their UFC heavyweight fight.
For those who haven’t seen the Duffee vs. Russow fight it was basically a one sided beatdown and Duffee was outboxing and throwing so many punches and clearly winning against Russow who wasn’t even doing much except taking punches on the face.
Duffee threw so many punches in the fight he got tired, remember bigger guys gas out quicker and they need to learn how to pace themselves and not blow their load early. Duffee came out in the third round tired and left himself open and got caught.
That is the beauty of boxing and MMA anything can happen a guy can get his butt whooped all rounds and land that one lucky punch, or they can get lucky that their opponent gets fatigued and catch him with a submission.
Shane Carwin was destroying Brock Lesnar on the feet, Lesnar was moving back and even covered himself in a ball or fetal position, it was very awkward to see the man being hyped as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” backing away like Brock did. It looked like he hoped the ref would stop it while Carwin pounded away at him. Brock was just shelled up and taking many unanswered shots. The punches Carwin threw gassed him out, I figured since Brock wasn’t intelligently defending himself the ref would step in but he didn’t.
The second round Shane Carwin was wasted his hands low and no more energy to defend himself he basically just gave up on his back and let Brock choke him out with an arm triangle and no fight.
I am not taking anything away cause a win is a win but you have to admit that Brock got lucky Shane Carwin gassed out in round one because Carwins hands were so crisp and fast Brock didn’t want to trade with him at all. Brock showed that he is weak standing up and he can’t fight off his back.
I want to see Brock give Shane a rematch or see Brock fight Junior Dos Santos someone who is big, fearless, has great boxing skills and will take the fight to Lesnar like Carwin did.
