I noticed something when watching those movie promotion press junkets for upcoming movies and when they let a Philippine media person into those events to ask questions they usually revolve around things that have nothing to do with the movie for example; Do you like Manny Pacquiao? or Do you like the Philippines? What is your favorite Filipino food? Do you know Tagalog? etc…
Watch the interviews where guys like Boy Abunda and other Filipino reporters go to interview American celebrities they will ask those same exact questions listed above or some other irrelevant question that only has to do with the Philippines.
I remember reading an article where the Filipino media reporter asked Denzel Washington if he knows Manny Pacquiao or likes Manny Pacquiao, they asked the same question to Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Eva Longoria-Parker and various other actors when they interview them for movies or on the red carpets.
What does Manny Pacquiao have to do with the movie they are promoting or the issues at hand? It has to be one of the most randomly irrelevant questions asked by Filipinos. Its like if some Jamaican guy asked randomly at a press-conference concerning computer development “Do you like Usain Bolt?”
It shows that there is some truth to what comedian Adam Carolla said about the Philippines revolving around one man and that is all they got is Manny Pacquiao.
Since Charice Pempengco signed on to the hit American show GLEE, the new over asked question by Filipino media will be “What do you think of Charice ?”
As a Filipino I have to say that we have much more than Manny Pacquiao and Charice to offer, Manny is a great man and a hero to us all but the Filipino networks need to brief their reporters before doing interviews with non-Filipino celebrities and politicians… tell them to ask relevant questions and save them the embarrassment.
