It seems the biggest possible fight in boxing is nearing reality. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, stated in an article by Yahoo! Sports Boxing that the negotiations for the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight is complete and the proposal papers have been sent to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Manny Pacquiao has released various statements to the Filipino media that he will retire after November to satisfy his mother Dionisia’s pleas for him to quit boxing and focus on his congressional duties in Sarangani province.
Bob Arum said the drug testing protocol and the money split for the fighters have been resolved but the only hold up is the fight date.
“That’s all been resolved,” Arum said of the the drug testing terms. “It may be that Floyd wants to fight in May, in which case (Pacquiao will) fight (another opponent) in November and fight him in May. I am not going to talk about the specifics of the negotiations. You have my statement that there are no real issues that I can see, except whether he wants to fight now or later or not at all.” Bob Arum told Yahoo! sports.
In case Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t agree to a November fight with Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum has other options lined up for Manny; a rematch against Miguel Cotto or face tough Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito at Dallas Cowboys stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The fight is now up to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Does he want the fight or will he retire from boxing again and avoid fighting Manny Pacquiao in his prime?
