Reports swirling around the internet suggest that former WWE pro wrestling star, Batista, is headed to the Strikeforce Mixed Martial Arts organization. Strikeforce is an MMA promotional company based out of San Jose, California and airs their fights on the Showtime cable network and CBS.
After Batista’s WWE contract expired, many pro wrestling fans thought he would sign with WWE rival TNA. Batista attended the June 16 Strikeforce show in Downtown L.A. and was seen talking to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, fueling the rumors that the 41-year old Filipino/Greek -American wrestler was signing with Strikeforce to make his MMA debut.
Gossip site TMZ ran into Batista and got him on video saying he was done with WWE and headed to Strikeforce to fight. If Batista heads to Strikeforce he will be on the list of big name former WWE wrestling stars to transition into MMA following the footsteps of Brock Lesnar the current UFC heavyweight champion and Bobby Lashley who fights in Strikeforce. Batista has no collegiate NCAA wrestling experience and is 41-years old, so, his transition to Mixed Martial Arts will be a tough one but maybe after seeing the 48-year old former NFL running back, Herschel Walker, enter MMA it gave him confidence to give it a shot.
Batista has dabbled in MMA training and is a big fan and friend of boxer Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao, he walked the Filipino boxing legend to the ring for his bout in May 2009 against British boxer Ricky Hatton.
Batista tells TMZ he is no longer with WWE and headed to MMA
