The Filipino pugilist/congressman, Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao, is in New York with his wife Jinkee and their close friends to accept the Boxing Writers Association of America awards for “Fighter of the Year” and “Fighter of the Decade” at the BWAA awards dinner on Friday June 4, 2010 at the Roosevelt Hotel. No word yet if the awards will be broadcast on live online through internet stream.
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, will also receive and award for “Trainer of the Year.”
Hall of Fame boxing legend, and former Muhammad Ali foe, Smokin Joe Frazier will hand the “Fighter of the Year” award to Manny Pacquiao.
It’s not certain if Manny will attend the HBO boxing fight the following day on Saturday, June 5th, between Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto at the new Yankees stadium in the Bronx because he and his wife Jinkee are scheduled to take a vacation in Mexico.
The question on many minds is if Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum will meet to talk about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight, but Arum has been tight lipped and without comment on the situation. Pacquiao has stated in several Philippine reports that he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the fans. Floyd Mayweather has yet to release a comment or statement on the fight.
