The Hogchoker (Trinectes maculatus) fish is widely searched on the web, it is a small flatfish, with eyes on its right side found along the coastal of parts of North America and prefers brackish water. Like other flatfish, the Hogchoker swims on its side and blends in with the soil.
The fish is sold at fish aquarium stores under the name “Freshwater Flounder” or “Freshwater Fluke.” How did the Hogchoker get its name? It was once said Hogchoker got its name because it was used as food for pigs.
The Hogchoker is regularly found in the Mississippi, Hudson, and East Rivers but range all along the Atlantic coast from Maine, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The habitat of a Hogchoker is sandy bottoms near coastal shorelines and estuaries. The fish is also hard to feed because of its preference for live foods such as Brine Shrimp,tubifex worms, Mosquito larvae, and Daphnia.
