Fox Broadcasting’s hit summer series So You Think You Can Dance started its seventh season this past week with a special double audition episode featuring New York and Miami. Big changes were made to the format of the show, dancers will now be competing for only 10 top slots instead 20 like in past seasons. Also favorite dancers from past seasons, “The All Stars”, will be invited back to be dance partners for this year’s top ten.
The New York audition brought back fan favorite choreographer, Mia Michaels to the judging panel, along with Adam Shankman and Nigel Lythgoe. Highlights from the New York audition, included self proclaimed “Big Girl”, Sarah Brinson who started the show off strongly. Ballroom dancers, Giselle Peacock and Henry Byalikov, both veterans of the Broadway show Burn the Floor, steamed up the stage with a hot Latin dance . Teddy Tedholm, who previously auditioned in season 6, brought the judges to tears with his emotional modern dance audition.
The show then moved on to Miami, with choreographer Sonya Tayeh taking a place on the judging panel. 30-year-old Czech ballroom dancer, Micheal Petr, flew all the way from Germany in order to audition for the show, he ended up earning a ticket straight to Vegas. Stay at home mom, Amy Aguiar-Riley dance a contemporary number which impressed the judges with its intensity. The last highlight from the Miami audition was Jose Ruiz, a b-boy who claims to be better than Legacy.
