After watching another brilliant hosting job on Wowowee by Robin Padilla, who even performed a song and dance and recited a poem for Carmen the Indonesian actress, I almost forgot who Willie Revillame was.
Padilla won the crowd over by saying he is here because of bayanihan tayo! when he said that the crowd went wild with applause. The difference when you watch Robin Padilla and Willie Revillame is like night and day, on one hand you have Willie who ridicules and mocks the guests and contestants using the excuse that it’s just a joke, and on the other hand you have Robin Padilla, who is charming and considerate as shown by when he carried the merchandise of the contestants, something that you would never expect Willie to do.
And let us not forget how many controversies Willie has been involved with in the past. After each incident he said he will not do it again, and showed a dramatic act with tears rolling down his eyes, but there is no tears coming down from his eyes and then he gets himself into another controversial situation after saying he is a changed man and learned his lesson. This is like the story of the boy who cried wolf.
Remember when Willie made disrespectful remarks on former Philippine President Cory Aquino’s funeral coverage, saying it was interrupting his “Willie of Fortune” segment and preventing people from being happy, and instead of apologizing he threatened to step down from his hosting duties on Wowowee and took an indefinite leave similar to what he is doing now with the Jobert Sucaldito situation. The Aquino family accepted his apology and later he was seen with presidential rival Manny Villar.
Don’t forget the most tragic of Willie’s incidents, the 2006 Wowowee ULTRA stampedes at the PhilSports Stadium in Pasig City, Metro Manila, where 71 people died and 392 people were seriously injured. Willie was investigated as one of the approximate causes of the stampede but was later acquitted of all charges and never shown any remorse for the tragedy. The relatives of the victims are still traumatized every time they see Willie hosting the show and believe justice was not served.

After all of these controversies involving Willie and saying he is sorry or crying that people are against him, he can always return with no punishment or repercussions, what example does this set for the people when someone can get away with the things Willie has? Many wonder why does ABS-CBN keep him around when he is so disliked and surrounded with controversy? They already know the people are fans of Wowowee and are there for the show not Willie.
Robin Padilla gives the Filipinos a positive role model to look at and he presents a new era of Wowowee an era of class.
